Dr Alberto Politi

Dr Politi received a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and a M.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Pavia (Italy) in 2003 and 2005, respectively. He obtained his Ph.D. degree at the Centre for Quantum Photonics, University of Bristol (UK), in 2010 working on integrated quantum photonics with Professor Jeremy O'Brien and Professor John Rarity. During his postgrad studies, he joined the group of Professor Akira Furosawa at the University of Tokyo (Japan) as a visiting research fellow. After a postdoctoral position at the Center for Quantum Photonics, he was research assistant at the University of California, Santa Barbara, CA (USA) from 2012 to 2013, working on solid state quantum computing with Professor David Awshalom.

Recipient of the 2008 Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Global Innovation Award for Emerging Technologies and in 2011 of the PhD Thesis Prize of the Quantum Electronics and Optics Division (QEOD) of the European Physical Society, he is author of several high impact, peer-reviewed scientific papers and an active reviewer for Nature Communications, Optics Express, Optics Letters, Photonics Technology Letters Journal.

He is now Lecturer in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the Univeristy of Southampton, where he leads the Quantum nanoPhotonics group (QnP) and teaches for the course of Introduction to the Nanoworld.
